If you are reading this article, maybe you are interested in creating a community, leading them, and achieving your dreams by helping others achieve their dreams. Here you’ll discover the 5 secrets to leading a tribe.

We live in a convulsive era, with pandemics, diseases, wars, and an exponentially changing world. Many people walk like sheep without a shepherd… and they are willing to follow you, but you must be authentic, which means forgetting about yourself and focusing on them because there is something inside of you that moves you to do great things. That’s what Seth Godin calls tribes.  Seth is a marketing expert and author of numerous bestsellers and creator of concepts such as Permission Marketing and Viral Marketing.

Below you will find the 5 secrets to leading a tribe, which I learned after an arduous study of one of his books called: Tribes: We Need You to Lead Us.

The world is full of tribes, tribes with whom you travel, with whom you work, with whom you shop, with whom you vote, with whom you fight, etc. It was never so feasible to find and lead a tribe in human history.

I mention finding because you can’t create tribes; you can only find them and form them. A tribe is a group of people who share a common interest or pain point. They are waiting you lead them.

5 Secrets to leading a tribe.

Next, I want to give you the best tools to turn a group into a successful tribe:

  1. Authentic, tribal-centered leadership.

People are willing to follow you if you are eager to lead them. Be light for your tribe. It’s not about you; it’s about the tribe. It’s not about the world either; it’s just about your tribe. Do not try to please everyone, but only the tribe. Lead without seeking compensation, willing to sacrifice yourself by taking risks without guarantees, only moved by hope and faith in the tribe and your mission.

Qualities of a True leader of a tribe:

  • Generosity. Tribe-centered leadership, the leader exists only to help the tribe, help it prosper.
  • Courage. Stay ahead, challenge the status quo, and persevere through adversity. Moved by faith leads them to hope, which overcomes fear.
  1. Innovation and change.

Change is your real opportunity. Working in a static environment is tedious; boring organizations don’t grow because boring ideas don’t spread, innovative ideas spread… and they win.

However, many times we see changes restricted by fear. Millions of fabulous ideas that could drastically improve the world die in many people’s minds who did not put them into action out of fear.

Remember: Past achievements are no guarantee of future success. Tribes reward innovation

  1. Networking.

Ideas spread in a community. Every tribe needs a place to meet, meet and share. This place can be physical, virtual, or both.

Archimedes said: “give me a lever, and I will move the world.” The Good news is that today we have these levers capable of moving the world in a very economical way, often even at no cost.

Following, I mention some of those levers with which you can reach the world in a few minutes and be able to spread your ideas: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Slack, email, WhatsApp, MS Teams, blogs, etc.

Remember that every lever needs a support point, and that support point is the members of your tribe. Discover the platform that best suits your tribe and then exploit the power of the levers.

  1. Active members.

Be careful not to make the mistake of focusing only on the numbers. The actual size of the tribe is measured by its active members. They are the actual growth engine of your tribe. Active members are the people committed to your dream. The real victory is turning passive members into active members.

Here are some keys that can help you for this purpose:

  • Give them the opportunity for growth.
  • Give them a sense of belonging.
  • Share with them the dream and the values of the tribe and let them work actively. The fewer limits, the better.
  1. Be unique.

Stand out from the rest. The value is in the difference. In the few, not in the many. Being different creates a value in you that will be greatly appreciated and valued by the members of the tribe. Think, investigate, search and invest a lot of time and energy in discovering what makes you different from the rest, so belonging to your tribe is perceived as a privilege. Only in this way will you be able to make the tribe endure over time, even beyond our existence. When you achieve this, you will have contributed to a better world.

Now that I have explained all this to you, I want to talk to you about our tribe, Hispanic Workforce; we are “Hispanics United in the United States,” who are aware that Hispanics are the second racial-ethnic group in the United States, and that it has the highest growth rate. Nevertheless, we are one of the races less prepared academically and, therefore, with lower salaries. At Hispanic Workforce, we work to help in the preparation, networking, and coaching to provide better opportunities for Hispanics and make them one of the primary sources of the United States economy. It is by helping others that we help ourselves. In the attached video, you will find more information about who we are and how we can help you.

If you want to become one of our active members and support us as a volunteer, you can register here and be part of the select group of Hispanics.
